How to pick a random name

    Just three little steps ↙
    01

    Add your names

Paste your list or import a TXT or CSV file. Each non-empty line gets one racer.

    02

    Make it your race

Choose a mixed crew or one of 16 animal species, then set a 5–120 second race timer.

    03

    Cheer for a winner

Start the race and watch the finish. Remove the winner to give everyone else a turn.

YOUR NEXT PICK, WITH A LITTLE PERSONALITY

A random name picker with a wild little twist

Animal Race Picker turns a list of names or options into a playful race. Choose who goes first, pick the next presenter or settle a friendly group decision. It is an alternative to spinning a name wheel: the draw is random, and the animal race makes the reveal a shared moment.

A random name picker race with 16 animals

Every line in your list becomes a numbered animal: duck, bunny, panda, frog, fox, cat, pig, bear, dog, cow, horse, goat, sheep, rooster, owl or elephant, each with a real recorded call. Choose a mixed crew or a single species, set a 5–120 second race and start. Above 12 names the track becomes an open meadow, so a class of 50 still fits on one screen without scrolling.

Full finishing order and remove winner

The result shows the winner and the top three, and “Full ranking” opens the complete finishing order from first to last. Use it as a presentation order or a draft order. For several winners across rounds, press “Remove winner” and race again; save a class list to reload it next time with one click.

Animal race or wheel of names?

A wheel gives one winner in a few seconds. An animal race builds suspense for 5–120 seconds, produces a full finishing order rather than a single name, and stays readable with 100 entries where wheel segments turn into slivers. Both are fair when the draw is random; here the order is shuffled with the browser’s cryptographic random source before the animation starts.

For classrooms, raffles and live streams

Teachers use it for reading turns, group presentations and game order, projected full screen and muted when the room needs quiet. Giveaways, draft orders and ticket draws use the full ranking. On a live stream, go full screen and share the window in Zoom, Google Meet or OBS; everything runs in the browser, with no ads, no tracking scripts and no upload of your names.

    FAQ

    Good questions, little answers

    Is Animal Race Picker free?

Yes. You can run races with 2–100 entries for free, without creating an account or installing an app.

Does every name have an equal chance?

Every entry has the same chance. A cryptographic Fisher–Yates shuffle picks the full finishing order before the animation. Names, animals and lane positions do not affect the draw. Duplicate names count as separate entries.

Can I remove a winner and race again?

Yes. After a race, choose “Remove winner” to remove that specific entry, then race again. This is useful when everyone should get a turn.

    Where are my names stored?

Names and race results stay in your browser. Lists are not uploaded to our server. If you enable “Remember this list”, your names are stored on this device until you clear them.

Can I use it on a phone or classroom projector?

Yes. The picker adapts to smaller screens and includes a full-screen track for shared displays. Browser support for full screen varies by device.

Is this a pet name generator?

No. Enter existing names or options and the race selects one. The tool does not generate new animal or baby names.
